If government focuses on a 4G auction in 2021, then India's 5G spectrum sale could be delayed.
Fitch Ratings said, "5G spectrum auction could be delayed if the government priorities 4G auctions in 2021 to allow telecos to renew spectrum in 800/900 Mhz in certain states".
As 5G auction has high reserve prices (set by regulator) and limited 5G use cases, global ratings agency also notices very limited participation by Airtel and Vodafone-Idea(VI) in 5G spectrum.
Airtel' CEO Mr Gopal Vittal said, airtel will participate in the auction of next year as the current reserve prices set by the sector regulator are unaffordable.
This year Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel gained revenue share with 75% to 80% of the telecom market where it has been estimates that Vodafone-Idea could lose 50-70million subscribers in the next 12 months. Vodafone-Idea has already 155 million subscribers in the last nine quarters.
