Effficiency of Cloth Masks against Viruses
If cloth masks are washed daily at high temperature then this may reduce the transmission of virus-A study found.
Both cloth mask and surgical mask will be considered contaminated after use.
Researches reanalyzed a data of 2011, whether the health workers washed their masks daily and if so, how they washed their masks.
They found that if cloth masks are washed in the hospital laundry, the are as effective as a surgical masks. But they did not test this for SARS-CoV-2. They included some common viruses such as Influenza, Rhinoviruses and seasonal Corona viruses in their study.
There is a less chances for common people to come into contact with the person who is already contaminated than the health workers as they work in a high risk wards- The study reported.
They study also reported hand-washing cloth masks are not adequate for providing full protection against viruses and people who self-washed their masks have double risk of infection compared to those who use laundry.
World Health Organization recommends machine washing masks with hot water at 60 degrees Celsius and laundry detergent.
